Introduction and course goals

This Master Programme aims to promote a critical reflection about some of the main educational themes and problems regarded from a historical perspective, thus seeking to foster recognition of the complexity that characterises these phenomena and to highlight the changes and constancies in the manner of looking at and solving them.

The historical construction of school modernity, in some of its dimensions, will be regarded as a structuring axis of the sum of approaches. We will try to follow the processes of infancy and youth schooling, institutionalisation of educational systems, teachers’ professionalization, curricula construction, educational ideas and practices and pedagogic innovation proposals, patrimonies and school memories, among other study objects.

This Master’s also aims to promote the necessary skills to carry out academic research on any theme included in the field of the History of Education, with a view to preparing dissertations, including problematizing the object, seeking theoretical references, choosing the right methodology and working on sources.
