Project no. 47130 Classroom 4.0 – wellbeing resources, aims to research and develop school furniture solutions that influence and monitor the wellbeing and health of students in the classroom. The aim of this project is the experimental development of the incorporation of 4.0 technologies in classroom infrastructures for authentication, monitoring, recording and data processing – real time information of the monitored parameters – and also to act in useful time in the infrastructure in order to influence the monitored environmental parameters.
The co-promoting consortium is made up of one enterprise, Nautilus, S.A., and two non-corporate entities, INEGI – Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and the Instituto de Educação da Universidade de Lisboa, bringing together the technical and scientific expertise for its development.

The R&D project “CLASSROOM 4.0 – wellbeing resources”, to be materialized in co-promotion between NAUTILUS, INEGI and the Instituto de Educação da Universidade de Lisboa (IE-ULisboa), intends to proceed the technological, scientific and social advances that have marked the 21st century and that have exerted a strong pressure for change in the educational systems, both in terms of their curricula and methodologies and in terms of their spaces and dynamics. Research has been confirming that the performance of students and teachers is influenced by the internal and external environment of school buildings, which is positively correlated with the learning and behaviour of students, as well as with their levels of satisfaction and academic performance. Thus, this project aims to investigate the impact on school performance of physical characteristics identified in learning spaces (temperature, light, noise, humidity, etc.) and to identify methods and technologies for monitoring (non-intrusive) of health and well-being parameters of students relevant to school performance. As a result, the experimental development of the incorporation of 4.0 technologies in the classroom infrastructures for authentication, monitoring, recording and data processing (real-time information of monitored parameters) and also for trigger on line action in the infrastructure in order to improve the monitored environmental parameters. The project will culminate with the provision of prototype solutions (new generation of school furniture with 4.0 technology and respective intelligent technological platforms) for a CLASSROOM 4.0 space, to be validated in a pilot installation in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education. The project aims for the new products and services developed and the pilot installation to become an open space for experimentation and demonstration, in which the co- developer IE-ULisboa will assess the pedagogical results achieved.
