Abstract

The LOOP project aims to contribute to a more comprehensive policy of the teaching profession that encompasses all stages of the career, implying training of more experienced teachers and school principals with a view to developing effective and formal teacher induction programs.
The aim is to measure the impact and scalability of the mentor training program and the teacher induction program in order to improve the pathways in the teaching profession, based, among others, on the assumptions that:

1. The training of experienced teachers and school principals enables the implementation of effective teacher induction programs, contributing to an improvement in the educational system.

2. Teacher induction programs developed in / by schools contribute to social and cultural inclusion and to the professional development of teachers, at the beginning/in continuing careers.

A quasi-experimental methodology of four building blocks will be followed: preparation of the field trial – Design of policy instruments – Field trials in real environments – Elaboration of recommendations for educational policies.

In addition to the involvement in all the other WPs/tasks of the project, the IE-ULisboa team will coordinate the ‘WP5 – Monitoring, Evaluation and Quality Control’, developing, applying, and analyzing diverse surveys, in the different countries involved, and in the different phases, plus two comparative European surveys.

Target groups: Teachers (at the beginning of their careers and experienced), school principals, ministry of education, entities responsible for school management training and / or for the development/training of teachers.

Expected results: Framework for the design of innovative peer induction programs by school principals; Mentors training program; Teacher induction programs; Scientific reports; scientific articles; policy briefs; a final conference at IE-ULisboa; creation of the LOOP network, integrated in IE-ULisboa REDESCOLA; policy webinars; workshops (for mentors, teachers, etc.); presentation of good practices; a white paper on policy recommendations for teacher induction.
