The main objective of this project is to promote the appreciation of natural and cultural resources linked to the Portuguese coast, specifically the intertidal zone, using as an example two distinct coastal ecosystems, a rocky platform (Avencas Marine Protected Area) and a marshland zone (Ria Formosa Natural Park). It is proposed to create two itineraries, involving a set of “exploration stations” located in each of these coastal ecosystems, related to the biodiversity of these places, with the adaptations characteristic of the resident species, with the external pressures to which they are subjected, and with the type of human use characteristic of these places. This itineraries will be offered in digital format, through the creation of an App that can be downloaded, free of charge, on any mobile technology (mobile phones, PDAs, etc.). This digital didactic resource will be directed for schoolchildren.
The project ultimate objective is to promote ocean literacy, contributing to the development by all citizens, and particularly schoolchildren, of a deep understanding of the importance of the sea and its influence on their lives, and the effects that their behavior can have on coastal ecosystems.
